You need something to improve travel?
Actually you can be glad there exists something like that.
You can consider yourself lucky that you don't have to travel everywhere by foot.
Don't you think that if this was even remotely possible that it would've been introduced by now?
The main reason why there's a boat is becoz it's 3 different games.
This suggestion has been made over and over again.

I'd be happy with either a towns drop-down to let you zone directly, or to let you cycle the various continent maps and choose the town that way (and in the list of maps to cycle include the Torment and Battle Isles).

I sure would like to see a different approach to the whole map traveling system. But on the other side i think that maybe we ask a little too much, because in other MMO's you need to travel the whole thing on foot, (air)ships, mounts, etc. We are already having the best available traveling function of all similair games at our disposal!

If they would change it however, i would like to see a map system that displays all continents on one screen. When Factions came out, i certainly was quite surprised that i could only see one content on screen at once...

Default Instant Travel: Cross-Campaign Travel Improvements Discussion

In another thread that I started "Silly Warrior" came up with the idea of linking the maps together instead of having them seperate. I know this could cause confusion among players with only one chapter, but if it is set up so that only those maps that you have chapters for are linked then the maps could be linked too. This could allow us to warp to anyplace that we have been too already without having to go through the port cities.

This would also eliminate the need for many players to travel to Lions Arch, Kaineng Center & Kamadan and thus reduce the traffic through the main trading hubs of the game, making it much more difficult to sell items IG.

Well it wasn't my idea, but I'd definatly like to hear from some devs about this issue. Right now, the world of guild wars is fragmented, meaning its broken up and really doesn't seem like a real world at all. To me, it feels like a bunch of maps and nothing else. I don't get that feeling like I did when I came out of presearing in April 05 and saw the world as we knew it. Tyria in all of its glory.

So without futher adue....lets make some proposals eh?

THE WORLD OF GUILD WARS.....

Reason: The world of Guild Wars is fragmented, and doesn't seem like a real place at all. I'm sure most of you would agree on this issue. It doesn't seem the same way it did before Factions or the PvP Battle Islands came out. It seems, very fragmented, and not real at all. And isn't Anet trying to create a fake world?

Of course some would disagree on linking maps, but if a real world is what Anet is trying to create, the first step is making a real map.

The idea is quite simple actually. We all press (M) to go into our maps, and there we see the world, or continent we are on. The first thing anyone who doesn't play the game, notices and asks "Why do you have to change maps if your able to transfer instantly anyways?"
I of course answer, " I don't know, thats the way the company set it up"
Their reply " thats stupid dude."

And I agreed.

Ways to Implement: This is easy and wouldn't take the devs more than a couple weeks tops to figure out, if they can make a Party Search, they can do this.

Heres how it would work: Depending on what Campaign you own, it would show that continent only on the map, and the battle islands to the side of the world. If you owned more campaigns, it would show the location of those continents as well, increasing in size. So on and so forth. Now on to the more detailed stuff.

One might argue the following:

What would PvP Characters do?: Since PvP characters only reside on the PvP islands, nothing.

What about the blank areas in-between campaigns?: Its supposed to be water, and water is what it would show, of course to not make the map as big it would be reduced. Even if a new chapter might come into that patch of water, it would still be there, to make the game seem REAL. Thats the whole goal if this anyways.

Wait, What if I don't want to see the entire world?: Simple, toggle on/off to show the entire world/continent your currently on. That way, nobodies angry they have to see the whole world, and those who do can live in peace. Everyone gets exactly what they want, and nobodies angry about one way or another.

Wouldn't this make boat travel useless?: In my opinion, it was useless the second it was put into use almost a year ago. All it did was devide the game up, and make it seem less real. So while there would be optional boat travel if you decided to keep the game the way it is, its still pretty useless.

What about Port Cities?: They would still technically be "port cities", you could just have the option of not using them. After all, your automatically going from place to place instantly, so whats the point of them in the first place? To seem real? No....if it was real we would have to ride in a real ship, and not auto-transfer to new places. This new map would make things seem a bit more real, becuase you could travel whereever on the turn of a dime.

Why would we want a full sized real map?: Simple, it makes the game seem more like what its intended, a fake world. In our world we have maps that are fullsize and show everything, or everything we know currently. With these new maps, it could show the whole wonder of the world of Guild Wars. After all, we don't even know the name of the world our players are on, because its never mentioned. Think of this map change as reuniting world, feel the same way you did back when only Tyria existed.

Conclusion:

This Map change would change the way we all think about the game, and would be a great addition, would make sense, and not take long for the devs to create. It would add the sense of actually being in a real world, which to me is lost.

So, if you agree to these things above, and you believe most of what has been written, sign this thread. Every /signed brings us all another step closer to having a more connected map, in a world we all hold dear.

Thanks for your time

Thanks . Also, the idea is owned by no man, it is more of a common idea, I simply made a detailed thread about it.

The only reason why the maps aren't linked is becoz it's 3 DIFFERENT GAMES.
When are you going to understand this once and for all?

NO, they are chapters of THE SAME GAME. Why can't you understand that?
There is something I have already seen in some games, and that could be done here:

Along with the partial maps, once you add a second campaign to your game, the 'global map' would appear in the world map view. Then, you can choose what map to view, the global map or each area ones.

Clicking the compass rose would show a dialog similar to the 'travel' dialog show when clicking the boat icon, that will allow you to chose the view: each separate map(region map) or the global map(world map).

Each separate map would be like the current ones we have.
The global map would have less resolution and you 'grayed' (either with clouds or water) the non-explored areas, the known areas would appear as non-explored areas of the current maps, but with outpost and city icons.

Only the region maps will show explored areas.

That could be easily done.

So basically you telling me that those other games had three stand-alone games which connected into one big playable environment just as GW does?

Dopn't know if this got brought up, I scanned, but am currently sick, so eh...

Reason number 1 for not having 1 big map, expansion.

The way it's done now, there is room to place any new expansion pretty much anywhere they like.(as far as Factions and Prophecies goes, they're completely seperate, I don't have NF, but I hear it borders the crystal desert kind of).

If it were all laid out on one big map, and they left alot of space between expansions, players would not cease howling untill all large gaps were filled with more expansions, and lets face it, the GW world is already starting to get formulaic and stale(that's for another topic though).

My 2 cents worth on why and why not.
Now for my addendum(or whatever the hell that word is)

When you click on the boat Icon, You're able to click Tyria or Elona, and it pulls up that map instantly. No loading LA, Kaening, or Kamadan(is that the NF one?)

LA was a hub for sales before either expansion came out, didn't become one because it was a waystation to get to either expansion.

If you really rely on the impulse buyer that's passing through, maybe you should lower your prices, or sell worthwhile things and vendor the rest. People spend entirely too much time selling utter crap when they could be farming for good stuff.

Anyway, yeah, that pretty much replies to all the points I wanted to touch on, and needle a little.
